Are there any casinos in Rio de Janiero?
Also, we will be there April 11 through April 15, and would like to see a soccer match. Are there any good matches scheduled? If so, how do I get tickets, and will the venue be safe for tourists? Thanks

As far as I know, casinos are forbidden in Brazil...!
But I'm not sure. hehe.
All I know is that I DON'T know of any casino anywhere in Brazil! =)
But have a nice trip, there are lots of interesting things to do there and you won't miss a casino!

Guedes is right. Brazil banned casino gambling in 1945.
If any soccer matches are scheduled, the travel or desk clerk at your hotel will be able to get you tickets. With normal precautions -- taking taxis at night, for example -- you shouldn't have any problems.

Soccer: Well, the Brazilian Championship (Serie A) doesn't start before Saturday April 23rd.
However the 3rd round of the Brazilian 'Copa do Brasil' takes place on April 13 though it's not yet known whether a team from Rio will qualify because the 2nd round will first have to be played on 6/7 April.

I have been to Rio many times as a corporate pilot. To be real honest, I have traveled all over the world as a pilot. Rio is one place that I tell people that I would never go back to. If you like South America, I would go to Cuzco Peru, or Manaus Brazil and see the Amazon. I think Rio is too dangerous and not worth the money you would spend to do it. I met a British couple in Rio who were robbed on the beach. The sad part is that they had saved up for five years to go there. If you do go, please send me an email and let me know how your trip went.

I've been to Rio six times since 1998. I've walked on Copacabana Beach (sidewalks, both sides) late at night; I've strolled all over Santa Teresa as well as the inland streets and avenues on Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, both in the day and at night; and I've taken public transport (buses and subway as well as taxis) all over the city. I've never had a bit of trouble.
In fact, the only place I've had anything bad happen was in Salvador da Bahia. I was violently mugged and robbed -- because I foolishly wandered into a rough area when looking, at night, for a restaurant.

There used to be a time when going to the casino would be an event or would at least mean you had to leave your house and do some travelling. Thanks to the internet, we can now enjoy casino classics from the comfort of our own homes, on our sofas, or on the train to work.

Blackjack is one of the casino classics that has been given a new lease of life in the online world, just like popular jogos de caça niqueis (slot games). The classic game is now available to everyone in numerous variations from hundreds of developers. One of the very best online blackjack games is Live Blackjack, which marries the best of online gameplay with the look and feel of a real casino.

The big difference here is you play live, with a real dealer. No, the dealer will not come to your house and you will not visit the casino. Instead, the magic of the internet will mean you can each stay in your own world and experience the joys of casino-quality blackjack. It's almost like a casino streaming in your home.

Yes, we get it, there's nothing quite like a real casino. However, by adding a live dealer and letting you play in real time in a visually striking environment, this is the next best thing. Gameplay is rapid and accurate, while the tone of the game will be familiar to anyone who plays blackjack regularly.

Because it is online, we could argue the game is much more relaxed. Let's not forget, the dealer does not see you, so if you are chilling out on the sofa you can still play. We think that's hugely important, as is mobile support. You can play Live Blackjack from your PC, mobile, or tablet device.

Live Blackjack is a standard 7 seat version of the game. It uses six card decks to deal from and there is no bet behind option.

Of course, blackjack is one of the most popular and exciting games in the world and is played by casino fans everywhere. One of the things to remember about blackjack it is one of the only casino games that a real strategy can lower the house edge.

Some people may also know blackjack as twenty-one, a game played between several players against a dealer. While playing Live Blackjack it is important to remember you are not playing against other players, but instead against the cards and the dealer. Each round begins when one of the 52 card deck is dealt, with two cards to each player.

The basic point of blackjack is to get to 21 in the most efficient way:

  • build 21 with your first two cards (called a 'blackjack' or 'natural'), without a dealer blackjack;
  • Reach a final score higher than the dealer without exceeding 21; or
  • Let the dealer draw additional cards until their hand exceeds 21.

Two cards are dealt to each player. Cards 2 through 10 have their number value towards making 21. Face cards (Jack, Queen, and King) are all worth ten, while Aces can be worth one or eleven at the player's discretion. The value of the hand is the sum of the cards, for example a King and a 7 would make 17.

The dealer gets their cards once all the players are dealt. All participants are aiming to get to 21 in the most efficient way possible (see the points above). The winner is the player closest to or on 21 without busting. Multiple players can win on a table if their hand is better than the dealers.
